The Dr. Oz Show

Have you been tuning in along with the rest of North America? The Dr. Oz Show is all the hype since its launch this September, and I must tell you, I wish I had TiVo!

It’s such a breath of fresh air to have an informative health show on everyday well-being, as oppose to all the soap operas and shopping channels that make up daytime TV these days.

In its daily one-hour episodes, the show is broken up to various segments with a lot of audience participation, such as live demonstrations, role-playing, Q&A, games, even performances. The hour definitely passes by. And Dr. Oz answers any number of questions sent in by viewers about health, from hemorrhoids to divorce to fibre and exercise.

His approach is also multifaceted, introducing acupuncture to bollywood dancing and everything else in between as fitness options. Of course, being a talk show with many topics to cover, the discussions do not get in depth on any one subject, but it is a good place to get an experienced doctor’s medical explanations, current and advanced health programs, and new and upcoming treatment options and procedures. I do find that after I watch the show, I have to do more research on my own, but it is definitely a great first step. I also wouldn’t try some of those things at home, such as the segment on hemorrhoid procedure - there should be some disclaimer somewhere warning patients not to recreate their own contraption of medical equipment to self-treat! You never know what people are willing to try…

I definitely recommend checking out the show, and if there is a topic that whets your appetite, head over to our friends over at MedBroadcast, who can explain many of these conditions, tests, and procedures in greater detail.

Anyway, a great foray into daytime TV, I’d say.
